Exercise 101 - Essential Gear You Need On Your Journey To A Fit You
Start your fitness journey off right with the perfect gear to give you the BEST EXPERIENCE and GREATEST RESULTS!
So here you are. Ready to undertake a journey to a fit lifestyle. I am thrilled and you should be too! While I didn’t consider what certain things I needed because it’s been awhile since I began, I realize what I use on a daily basis are absolutely essential for anyone and getting the most out of a workout.
I’m going to keep the list very simple and to the point! Here you’ll find the must haves for your workout world that will take you anywhere you want to go! Keep them all together so they’re easy to find when you’re in a hurry to get to your next workout or gym class!
Good shoes
I am an avid walker, have done some jogging and just prefer a clean pair of tennis shoes when I go to the gym. They are strictly my workout shoes. Ideally you want good grip, support and flex. Don’t worry about spending a fortune but don’t skimp either, you want these shoes to last! My go to shoes are Nike or Asics casual or runners. They have always lasted me the longest, have great breathability and fit well. Below are a couple links to a great selection.
Yoga mat
An abolute must for at the very least STRETCHING at home. It’s totally okay if you don’t do floor exercise like yoga or pilates. I am a major advocate of stretching. This is something you will have for the rest of your life. They come in regular or extra thick. Pick what feels right for you. Below are some great options!
Beautiful colors, standard size
Also great colors, 2/5” thickness
Water Bottle
Ideally you are going to sweat working out. Whether your exercise consists of working out at the gym or maybe a nice hike, you NEED to stay hydrated. Have a water bottle that’s easy to carry. If its somewhat heavy while full no problem! You’re inadvertently including weights into your program! You can also choose to carry your bottle on you with a clever strap or fanny pack like this one!
These are my top choices:
32 oz. Durable Nike Water Bottle
18-24 oz Hydro Stainless Steel Water Bottle - tons of colors!
24 oz Hydro Cell Stainless Steel w/straw Water Bottle
24 oz Nike Water Bottle w/straw - I personally own and LOVE this one!
24 oz Buzio Stainless Steel Water Bottle w/straw and flip top
Ear buds and headphones
I love listening to music while working out. Over time I have used various types of headphones but have found a few that have stood the test of time. Preferably I like no cord so it doesn’t get in the way of my exercising. Sound quality and volume are important to me too. Below you can take a look, maybe you’ll also like them or just pick up whatever works with your phone or music device.
Proper activewear/athletic clothing
Last but not least proper clothes. To start, you want a wonderful sports bra. I can’t state this enough. My chest is rather large so I need one that will stay in place while I jump, run, move my arms around, flex my chest etc. I have had great luck buying from low cost department stores as well as Lululemon or even online. For the rest, I wear a semi form fitting tank top, a pair of spandex type leggings, I prefer just below the knee and a quality pair of ankle socks (so they don’t bunch under my heal). Shop around. You will find great athletic wear online or try them on at your nearest department store.
While your body may not be in its best shape yet, buy something that makes you feel good. When you’re trying on pants, do the squat test to make sure they stay on your bum. Prefer sweats or shorts? No problem, just get what feels right but make sure that any lose clothing doesn’t get caught in gym equiptment.
Highly Recomended/Top-rated Sports Bras:
Front zip, great color options
Criss Cross mid impact
Leggings, great color options
